Books!!!
This page is dedicated to all the books that I read.. Different books have different effects on people.. Some teach lessons.. Some are just to pass time.. Hope you read.. Its really a wonderful thing to do.. I’ll put down a short review for you … a highly personalized one… some part of the plot to get you interested.. And you can decide if you want to read the book or not..
Book one :: Atlas Shrugged ; Author : Ayn Rand (This one stays on top.. Always..)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Atlas_Shrugged
Intro :
The astounding story of a man who said that he would stop the motor of the world — and did.
Trememndous in scope, breathtaking in its suspense ATLAS SHRUGGED is unlike any other book you have ever read. It is a mystery story, not about the murder of a mans body, but about the murder — and rebirth — of a man’s spirit.
My view: Please just read this book.. Its a REQUEST..
Book Two :: The Clocks (Hercule Poirot) ; Author : Agatha Christie
Plot:
As instructed, stenographer Sheila Webb let herself into the house at 19 Wilbraham Crescent. It was then that she made a grisly discovery: the body of a dead man sprawled across the living room floor. What intrigued Poirot about the case was the time factor. Although in a state of shock, Sheila clearly remembered having heard a cuckoo clock strike three. Yet, the four other clocks in the living room all showed time as 4:13. Even more strangely, only one of the clocks belonged to the owner of the house…….
My view: Well, its not the first Poirot I’ve read. After all of Holmes’ cases I’ve picked on Poirot as my next “target”. He’s still uses the same procedure. Lies in a chair and lets his “grey cells” solve the puzzle while the police run around picking up clues for it. Another awesome plot. No two of her plots are same. This one has but a slight tinge of romance in it.
Book Three :: Murder in Mesopotamia (Hercule Poirot) ; Author : Agatha Christie
Plot:
It was clear to Amy Leatherman that something sinister was going on at Hassanieh dig; something assiciated with the presence of ‘Lovely Louise’, wife of celebrated archaeologist Dr Leidner.
In a few days time Hercule Poirot was due to drop in at the excavation site. But with Louise suffering from terrifying hallucinations, and tension within the group becoming almost unbearable, Poirot might just be too late …
My view:Remember vaugely.. Mode of murder was stunning.. Need to re-read before i can say more..
Book Four :: The adventure of the christmas pudding (Hercule Poirot/Jane Marple) ; Author : Agatha Christie
Plot:
An English country house at Christmas time, with its cracking long fires and fine food, may seem an incongruous setting for a crime — nut a sinister note left on his pillow tells Poirot everything is not as it seems.
The great detective plays his cards close to his chest – until the discovery of a young woman lying in the snow, a Kurdish knife in the centre of a crimson stain on her white wrap, spurs Poirot into revealing his hand.
Seven cases in which Poirot and Miss Marple prove conclusively that their powers of detection take the cake….
My view:
Short stories.. Good ones..
Book Five :: N or M (Tommy and Tuppence) ; Author : Agatha Christie
Plot:
It is World War II, and while the RAF struggles to keep the Luftwaffe at bay, Britain faces an even more sinister threat from ‘the enemy within’ – Nazis posing as ordinary citizens.
With pressure mounting, the Intelligence service appoints two unlikely spies, Tommy and Tuppence Beresford. Their mission :to seek out a man and a woman from among the colourful guests at Sans Gouci, a seaside hotel. But this assignment is no stroll along the promenade. After all, N and M have just murdered Britain’s finest agent….
Book Six :: The Murder on the Links (Hercule Poirot) ; Author : Agatha Christie
Plot:
A urgent cry for help brings Poirot to France. But he arrives too late to save his client, whose brutally stabbed body now lies face down in a shallow grave on a golf course.
But why is the dead man wearing his sons overcoat? And who was the impassioned love-letter in the pocket for? Before Poirot can answer these questions, the case is turned upside down by a second identically murdered corpse…
My view:A good book, though a little predictable..
Book Seven :: Cards on the Table (Hercule Poirot) ; Author : Agatha Christie
Plot:
Mr Shaitana was famous as a flamboyant party host. Nevertheless, he was a man whom everybody was a little afraid. So, when he boasted to Poirot that he considered murder an art form, the detective had some reservations about accepting a party invitation to view Shaitana’s private collection.
Indeed, what began as an absorbing evening of bridge was to turn into a more dangerous game altogether…
My view: Really a different one. Was more of the Poirot type as it needed a psychological view to find the murderer.
Book eight :: The Secret Adversary ; Author :Agatha Christie
Plot:
A top secret document mysteriously disappears after the sinking of the Lusitiana. Some years later, two naive Britains, Tommy and Tuppence form a parternship for purposes of adventure and hard cash, and find themselves on the track of a politocal time-bomb — the document. From then on they are under the deadly eye of the elusive, ruthless Mr. Brown, anonymous leader of the most dangerous political cadre ever known. As the duo get closer to their goal, he draws the net of intrigue, kidnapping, espionage and murder ever tighter around them…
My view: Really a good book. A change from my Poirots, the book has an awesome plot, mixed with Tuppence and Tommy’s brains. Have a look..
Book nine :: Partners in crime ; Author :Agatha Christie
Plot:
Tommy and Tuppence Beresford were restless for adventure, so when they were asked to take over Blunt’s International Detective Agency, they leapt at the chance.
After their triumphant recovery of a pink pearl, intriguing cases kept on coming their way: a stabbing on Sunningdale golf course, cryptic messages in the personal columns of the newspapers, and even a box of chocolates.
My view: Its a bunch of small short stories woven into a larger story. The cases they handle are interesting and there wasnt a single moment when i felt bored.
